Dishman Hills Natural Area

I had never been to the Dishman Hills Nature Area.  I had heard it’s a good place for birding, so I grabbed my camera and went for a wee hike.  I didn’t find any birds, but I got a few pictures.

Lanie – Senior Portraits

This is Lanie!  Not just another senior, but the daughter of a friend of mine (and a very cool person in her own right).  We did her senior pictures at a couple different locations around Spokane (click here for the a gallery of my favorite photographs).  We did several different industrial locations, and then ended up a little park, just as twilight hit.  My friend and another friend were there, and they were kind of watching us, but also racing around with Marcus on the grass behind me.  It was one of those moments that I love about what I do:  the sky was gorgeous, Lanie looked perfect, her dress was brilliant against the background.  It was warm.  And quiet, except for the distant sound of my son laughing.  And the river.  And when everything comes together like that, there really is no need for anything besides that moment.  No need for a past or a future.  Just a “now” that is so is rich and beautiful and perfect.

I did an engagement shoot with Natalie and Jake.  More about them can be found here.  And a little mini-gallery can be found here.

Marcus Turns Seven

Marcus turned seven!  Hard to imagine.  He wanted his party at the Jump and Bounce, so that’s what we did, though it really involved a lot more running than jumping and bouncing.  Then some presents there, and cake, and then more presents from all the relatives at home (btw, this kid does not need any more presents.  Thanks).  Here are some photographs! There are small captions at the lower left of the pictures.

Marcus Playing T-Ball Part I

Marcus kind of enjoys T-Ball.  Enough, anyway, to sign up for another year.  He likes running the bases.  Loves hitting.  And prefers catcher, if he has his choice.  Mostly, he likes being a kid and horsing around with his teammates and opponents.  Which is all good, too.  Here are some photographs from the first half of the season (more will be coming).  You can find tiny and fairly ordinary captions at the bottom left of the pictures.

Chloë – Senior Portraits

Chloë’s had her senior portraits taken.  She wanted them to reflect Spokane and be outside, so we shot them in and around Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane.  We wondered around and found a good many fun spots, and finally ended in the parking garage.  You can now follow my senior portrait work work on facebook.

Jennifer in a Field (with a guest appearance by Chopper)

I had shot with Jennifer before, but a long time ago.  We decided to do a shoot on a country road.  She brought along her dog, Chopper, who mostly was good waiting in the car.  But eventually he got impatient and she let him out for some tongue-dangling romps through the weeds.  Here is a gallery of the photographs. I really liked the attitude she brought to the shoot: at times tough, at times vulnerable.  I post-processed these images a bit more than usual, just for the fun of it.

We ended up at a location with large yellow things with multiple off-camera lights.  Any guesses what the yellow things are?
