I have shot several Spokane Chiefs games before. But for this game, the organization asked me to shoot from between the benches rather than from behind the plexiglass in the corners.
Shooting from there is a completely different experience. It’s astonishingly loud, with players shouting, coaches barking out orders, the bench gate slamming shut, the swish of players’ skates on ice. The action is much faster, the players bigger, and all if it is rather terrifying. I was literally shaking the whole first period and I had the distinct (and accurate) impression that I wasn’t getting any good shots.
By the second period, though, I found myself better able to keep up with the speed of the game. And it was an exciting game, which included one massive fight. And the Chiefs won. That’s always good.
