I’ve been wanting to do some studio work–simple, stark backgrounds, loud colors, high contrast. It sounded fun to Piper (you remember Piper, no?).
As often happens, it took a while to get rolling. There is an initial period of self-consciousness, of fiddling with lighting equipment, a testing out of ideas. But, in part becuase of the immediate feedback of digital, we started getting a feel for what was working, and we built on that, becoming more confident and free. My favorite pictures–as is often the case with studio work–came at the end of the shoot, when we were relaxed and having fun. Orange wigs, I think, help.
